STONE LOVE VS KILLERMANJARO@PRISON OVAL SPANISH TOWN MARCH 1992
In 1992 at The Prison Oval Killamanjaro and Stonelove went to war it was a clash of epic proportions. It featured a young Ricky Trooper who had just started to emerge as the ace selector on Killamanjaro. It was a transistory period where Dj’s were still defending their sound in clash but you also saw the emergence of the selector in the forefront. Jaro went all out they brought in the Spen Gorgon himself, Charlie Chaplin, Wickerman, Hammermouth, Shark, Gary Minott and many others. Each artist consistently, tune after tune defended Jaro while telling Stonelove how they are not even in the league of Killamanjaro. Stonelove however, never had not even one DJ to defend their sound. Rory and Weepo without the help of any Dj’s totally annihalitaed Jaro at The Prison Oval. Weepo not known for bad man talking got the biggest forward of the night by telling Chaplin “him a one bad mind dread fe a dis Stonelove a dread like you fe got hold and trim” the dance mash up. Stonelove would counteract a speech by I believe Wickerman who had previously said ” how can you love stone” Weepo counteracted that argument when he told Wickerman ” how can a man love stone”? then he played the Powerman, “Stone pon me buddy head” place buss again. Stonelove’s Tiger dub “you dead now” was the nail in the coffin. Stonelove without a doubut is a world class clashing sound. They just choose not to clash. If Stonelove would ever come into the clash arena no sound would survive and I say that without apology. Not the Mighty Killamanjaro, not David Rodigan, not Bassodyssey, not MC, not even the great King Addies could stop them. Stonelove has one of the deepest dub box in the world if they ever unleashed it nuff sound ago dead. After this clash Jaro and Stonelove would meet again in ’94 this didn’t turn out to be much of clash as Stonelove stayed on the juggling lane. they would however, meet again in ’95 when they clashed at Skateland in Halfwaytree. Unfortunately police locked off the dance early. However, by most accounts Stonelove was well on their way to give Jaro the killing of their life. Jaro and stonelove would never play together again after this dance. We can only hope and pray that one day their paths will cross again.
